I am 17 years old, and last year i was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. I was never depressed i was just looking for attention ( yea, childish I know). I want to join the military, but according to the standards I can't if I have any ';current'; depression illnesses. I was wondering if there were anyway to be cleared from this diagnoses or if i can get it removed from my medical records, or anything that will help me be one step closer to qualifying for the military.Is there a way to get a doctor to clear a mental disorder from my medical records?
You can't get it removed. You can however go in and get cleared from this diagnosis. It is going to be difficult for you to convince a Dr. that you were only making up your depression, it is actually indicative of a whole separate mental problem to be so desperate for attention that you are willing to fake such a serious illness! Don't expect for anyone to just believe you, you have proved yourself to be a liar and manipulator! The best thing to do is set up a session with a counselor or the original psychiatrist that diagnosed you. You will need to set up a schedule and go to weekly appointments so that you can build up trust in your current mental status and ';prove'; over time that you are done with manipulating people for attention. It won't just go away and you have to do the work to correct your dangerous behavior!Is there a way to get a doctor to clear a mental disorder from my medical records?
I think the best thing you could do is talk with your Doctor and tell him/her what you just wrote out above. Be honest about what you did, why you did it and where you're at right now as far as plans for your future.
Pretty sure the diagnosis can't be ';removed'; from your records especially if health insurance paid for medications and office visits related to the ';Major Depressive Disorder'; diagnosis. However, that diagnosis isn't one that can't be ';cured'; (as opposed to Cystic Fibrosis for example) so it's possible your Doctor would be willing to change your diagnosis from ';active'; status to ';history of Major Depressive Disorder';
Good luck ... I hope your Doctor is willing to help you with moving forward with your life and plans for a military career.
The best person to see would be a Psychiatrist. I know that sounds bad, but he/she would be able to tell whether you are depressed or not. If not, then ask to get it removed from your records.
Go get a psychiatric evaluation is all you can do and the doctor will declare you currently mentally fit or not.
no,,and doing what ya did will also remove ya from several jobs that require a back ground check
I would go to the doctor who made the diagnosis and ask if he/she would consider altering the diagnosis?
If not, then ask the doctor what causes Depression? And if the Dr. doesn't know, then have him/her sign a statement to that effect. This may encourage the doctor to reconsider your request.
Another alternative is to visit another doctor for a second opinion. Tell the second doctor that you had just broken up with a girl, or some other reason for your depressed state at the time, and that in a couple weeks you were your old self again.... and would the doctor please give you an exam now, and render a diagnosis currently?
Good luck... and hopefully you will help warn others to not see doctors or mental health people when they are depressed..... because what these people ';think'; can be used against oneself.
Depression for your information is a conflict within ones MIND regarding a fear of acknowledging either an intense fear or rage, and the repression of this takes so much energy that one has the symptoms of depression.
Peace
